First OrientaBike competition

Last Sunday, November 5th, took place at Tarumã (Riacho Ecológico) the first OrientaBike competition. Mountain Bike Orienteering is a cycling sport involving navigation with a map and compass.

The competition is a timed race in which individual participants use a special purpose map and a magnetic compass to navigate through diverse terrain (often wooded) and visit, in sequence, control points that are indicated on the map.

In this event, there were around 70 participants in several categories. INdT Manaus was represented by 6 athletes in the doubles. Allan Bezerra, from Open Source, and Wesley Oliveira, from M&EA, finished on 2nd, Túlio Silva and Thiago Falcão, from ATP, finished on 3rd and Bruno Leite and Leandro Ferraz , also from ATP, finished 5th place.

In 2007, there will be the first championship held in Manaus, with 8 events. According to Thiago Falcão, the event was so enjoyable and the results achieved were so satisfactory that the idea for next year is to participate of the entire championship.
